Transpartisan Politics on the Plains

The Nation --
Lincoln, Nebraska

Long before the Occupy movement swept the country—more than two years ago—a revolt began in one of the reddest states in America. Farmers and ranchers in Nebraska, many of them longtime conservatives, got angry about corporate influence on a single issue that has since captivated the entire state and upset national politics: the Keystone XL pipeline.

pse: oil isn't in short supply, it's the wastefulness of people that creates short supplies.

The Keystone XL pipeline will transport crude oil to the gulf coast to be refined into fuel. That fuel will be sold on the world market and the price of fuel at the pump will not decrease in the US.
STOP Big oil from selling fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices/profits. Barry will support natural gas and oil production to pay for his ‘spending gone wild’ addiction. The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump.
Produce and ‘drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Just keep fooling yourselves that concern for your environment is a liberal cause. When it's your backyard you'll be a leftist too.

Lets just build a new refinery by the border and put more northern people to work? Texas has more refineries than workers now.

All I can think to add here is a line from "Field of Dreams" {If You Build it They Will Come} you folks fill in your own comments. The possibilities are endless.

My Granddaddy did not want anything on his property but Buffalo. Oh they slaughtered all of them because there were so many. Maybe when oil is short the people who complain the most should be shut out at the pump.

The pipeline seems to only be in Canada'a interest. Let them build one in their own country.

It seems like most of the proponents for the pipeline are from areas away from the pipeline. It's easier to put a pipeline in other people's backyard, I guess.

Excellent article. Serious issues can bring disparate parties together in common cause.
The XL pipeline would be a disaster if it was allowed to cross the sand hills.

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole [of] nature in its beauty."

Why is Obama rejecting the project?? We need oil and Nebraska is willing to build the pipeline. Another thing that voters need control of. Too much control is given to the government. It seems many are not living in reality.

I've said this all along this is a decision that has to be made by the people of the states that this pipeline crosses. I think it was wise of our president to wait. We all have an opinion but the decision should rest with those that have to live with the consequences.

The oil will be shipped via Kitimat. Harper has all but said so. The only question left is will any go to the USA or will it all go to Asia.
