Suzuki to stop U.S. auto sales, exit market

CNN -- HONG KONG (CNNMoney) -- Japan-based Suzuki said Tuesday that it was closing its American auto distributor and exiting the U.S. car market.

The company's U.S. arm, American Suzuki Motor Corp., will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in California. The company said it would wind down auto sales, but did not provide a timetable.

American Suzuki said it would honor all warranties, and indicated that parts and service should continue uninterrupted.

The automaker was facing multiple challenges in the United States, including unfavorable exchange rates and a small lineup of models. The company, which managed to capture only a tiny sliver of the U.S. market, also cited slow sales as a reason for the exit.

Are they still making Suzuki's? You never hear them advertized or ever see one on the road. Another manufacturer taken out with Sneeky's failed economy. A 50mpg vehicle would sell in this economy and it would not matter what the quality of the vehicle was. And that Fiat (Fix It Again Tony) is still on the road too! What will happen next? 'Coming out of the closet' Sneeky's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the 'jobs' are Not here and more businesses have to close their doors. Sneeky's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!
