Obama’s Green-Car Plan Hits Limits

Bloomberg -- President Barack Obama’s administration is buying fewer hybrid and electric cars and more vehicles that can consume both ethanol and gasoline to meet 2015 environmental goals, favoring older technology over new.

Obama gave speeches across the U.S. last year touting his twin goals of buying only alternative-fuel vehicles for the U.S. fleet by 2015 and getting 1 million electric vehicles on the country’s roads by that year.

Anyone with any common sense knew that all EVs and most hybrids were not ready for prime time and "official" Federal government pronouncements or policy moves will not make the current EVs and hybrid generation or the generation that will be available in the near future (20 to 30 years away) ready for prime time.

Too many problems. And too costly. Only makes sense for people to buy vehicles that can get better gas mileage - the old tried and true engines and technology.

CNG is the real answer with the abundance of Natural gas. It is about 40% lower than gasoline. Obama needs to promote more stations and more conversion of cars to be able to run both gasoline and CNG. Tax credits to CNG cars is better than the Hybrids or EV's.
