Government Gasbags Silent on Gas Tax Boon

CityWatch -- CALWATCHDOG - While nearly every politician in America publicly decries the high cost of gasoline and fuel costs, most are also strangely silent about the soaring gas tax revenues that states are currently enjoying.

Californians always seem to pay the highest gas prices in the country...

From July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, the Board of Equalization reported that it collected $6.9 billion in motor vehicle fuel taxes, up from $6.7 billion the prior year. Excise tax revenues accounted for $5.2 billion, while sales tax revenues accounted for $1.7 billion...

Take a look at how much your state charges in taxes for every gallon of gas. You may want sit down first. Then keep in mind how much other money you already pay in other taxes. It's criminal. And they wonder why people don't have money to do anything else.

Wow, Californians pay 68.8 cents tax on a gallon of gasoline? Here, in Montréal, the gasoline tax is 43.863 cents per litre ($0.43863/L), according to GasBuddy. Given that a US Gallon is equal to about 3.785 litres, the Montréal gas tax is equal to about $1.66/US Gallon..!
To me, the California gasoline tax seems like 68.8 reasons to be cheerful.

Tomeboy, you are right. If we work together to get things done, obstacles will be seen as what used to be and progress will determine what will be. We will rise or fall together. Am I my brother's keeper?
