Computer glitch leads to $1/gallon gas in Pasadena

PASADENA, TX (KTRK) -- It was a lucky break for some drivers in Pasadena overnight who were filling up with gas. A problem with the pumps at a Conoco station off Queens near Allen-Genoa caused gas to be sold for just a dollar per gallon.

(Not money but profit) One of the recent articles said the "pull" price (cost to remove from the ground) of Saudi oil was $3-5 per barrel. Pull price for US crude can't be that much higher and there's no tanker shipping cost. Add in refinery operating costs and you're probably looking at less than a dollar a gallon to produce gasoline.

And you can criticize everyone for being happy that some people got a break. But if there was a glitch at his gas station he should have closed it down until he could get it fixed. The price was a dollar a gallon and people paid the price indicated. This is stealing?? "Some" people, such as you perhaps, are only happy as long as others are getting gouged....which is what we all have been getting over the past year. You act like everyone that bought gas there during the glitch is some kind of criminal and that others who wish such a glitch had happened to them are criminals too. Lighten up and get a life. And everyone on here is wishing it would happen near them. What happened to the poor, independent station owners who only get such a tiny slice of the pie per dollar/gallon of gas sold? What happened to oh no, oil companies and station owners only get pennies, and all the money goes to the state and federal governments in taxes, so we should look out for the oil companies and gas stations? I don't blame you for being jealous, but you can't try to make principled arguments on one hand, and then just be selfish on the other.

It hasn't been that many years when you could buy fuel for $1 per gallon anywhere in town. That probably did not hurt Conoco too much and likely gained them some good publicity. Will we ever see those days again? It's possible, but not likely unless we can abolish the EPA, end the Federal reserve, and dramatically cut back on spending.
